Antique ceramic bobbleheads are collectible figures made of ceramic and painted with a recognizable face. During the early nineteenth century, they were called "nodding head" figures and were first made in China. Later, they were created in Continental Europe and England. One of the most famous examples of this type of toy is the 1765 portrait by Johann Zoffany of Queen Charlotte, which shows her in her Dressing Room at Buckingham Palace.
Ceramic bobbleheads are especially fragile and can break in the neck region, limbs, and accessories. In addition, their color can fade over time due to exposure to the elements. For these reasons, some collectors store their bobbleheads in a cardboard box to ensure the long-term preservation of their valuable possessions.
